I believe the Creature may not have been able to cross over unless it was inside someone and Ward knew his was the case and that was his role in the mission. His rambling on and on with Coulson and the his earlier remark about a Gift for the Creature would indicate that Ward, was going to sacrifice himself and be the vessel for the Creature in order for the Creature to go through the Portal. If this wasn't the case, anytime a portal opened, the Creature could have just stepped in, it's not like anyone or any thing was stopping it from doing so. Love your podcast. Keep up the good work.
